Every race will be close! 5 or more races won in 2019 with 1200 or fewer votes!
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
24:34
That’s right, Steve! Del. Guy won by less than 50 votes in 2019 too
Steve Baker
25:22
41 in the recount!

28:46
Why is it taking so long to get VF stats? We got some pushback from members wondering if letters bring results.
Madeleine Deisen
30:09
Shout out to the Georgia Action Team! 🤩
Arlene
30:40
Sorry I'm late I had trouble getting a connection.
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
30:42
@Terry I know it’s hard it’s taking longer for the results. For a long time, Vote Forward and the Analyst Institute had to wait on Secretary of States to release their voting data from the 2020 election. I know they’re working hard to share a report and hopefully will have it soon
David slingluff
33:48
is there a polling option in the group builder member communication area?
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
34:42
Good question David - I’ll ask that question of Patrick at the end of his presentation. What exactly do you mean by polling option? Like a poll to ask members something?
David slingluff
35:18
Hi Charlie, like ask members which campaign the want to concentrate on as a group/
Barbara Noveau
35:53
Pain point in Group Builder: Export a membership list does not include phones or join-dates. Fixable?
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
36:37
Got it thanks for clarifying @David! I don’t think this is a feature included in Group Builder right now, but I’ll let Patrick answer. I think it’s probably best to email all members a google form to ask questions like that.
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
37:13
Good point @Barbara - I’ll let Patrick take that one!
Jane
37:23
^^^ @Barbara that is an important thing for us to be able to do - export membership list with phone numbers.
Alissa Friedman (she/her)
37:47
+1
David slingluff
38:13
Problem with google is that it takes a paid verson to handle big groups (ours is over 1K+).
Arlene
40:46
Can you make it easier for group leaders/administrators of a SwingLeft group to directly put an image into an event they create. Also, to create postcard writing rather than letter writing gatherings, group meetings, in person events, or joining a rally.
Elli Klein
40:48
My biggest problem w/ using/building in Swing Left is that I don't have potential members' email addresses. So I just build info/activities using my local New Hanover & Brunswick Co. w/ NC Women for Biden/Harris FB group
Jane
41:47
Had to join late so apologies if this has beencovered. Can one segment the membership list in some way, for instance by zip codes or by active/inactive members? E.g., it would be useful to export locals only for on the ground event recruiting.
David slingluff
41:53
Thanks Charlie!
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
42:50
I just checked an export - and it looks like it does include phone numbers now.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
43:02
But not join date - which I agree would be great!
Barbara Noveau
43:18
join date is really important!! Can’t get anywhere else.
Donna Gershenwald
43:18
FYI postage prices are going up at the end of Aug, so you may want to buy stamps now (letters and postcards) and encourage others
Sarah Bellinson
43:52
Thanks Donna, good idea!
Alissa Friedman (she/her)
44:20
Did you say — will the Groups 3.0 email allow emails to be scheduled?
Jane
44:55
Interesting, Matt. Thanks for that - will reach out for details.

These are welcome changes :-)
Bruce Knoth
47:07
Can people unsubscribe from the list through a link in the email?
David slingluff
47:17
Does the ms word format copy over to group builder

47:26
Any limit to number of people to email at one t ime?
Bruce Knoth
47:44
Thanks

@Sharon - No - it can be your full list

@David - it should

49:05
How about making it possible for us to create our own images for events we host/post to replace the default image that automaticlly is on any event we post.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
49:41
@Arlene - sadly, that’s a Mobilize limitation and not something we have the power to change.
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
50:46
It worked!! Great work in Georgia :)
David slingluff
51:45
Molly, how did you get creators OK to rebroadcast in zoom?
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
54:36
If you’ve got digital recruitment tips, please share them in the chat here.

55:55
We have group members, sign ups, but very few actual confirmations and show ups. Suggestions?
Molly | she/her | SL Riverside
57:08
@David Suppressed is a documentary by Brave New Films and they are making their documentaries free and trying to get people to screen them. So you can actually go to their website and sign up to do a screening. https://www.bravenewfilms.org/suppressed. Highly recommended!
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
57:28
Good question @Sue - I’ll ask questions of the panelists at the end. One idea is to call the people that signed up before they signed up as another line of confirmation
David slingluff
57:36
Thanks Molly.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
58:18
@Sue - I’d also suggest personalized outreach of some kind ahead of the event, like a confirmation email, text, or call.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
59:21
I’m going to use that one, Hope!
Molly | she/her | SL Riverside
59:24
@Sue we found that the best way to get people to show up was to directly contact them before the event. People often didn’t see the e-mails from mobilize or Swing Left but they would see a personal email, phone call, or text. A lot of people also have questions but won’t reach out and it may seem overwhelming to them. So reach out in advance and make them feel welcome!
Jane
59:40
Going to use that - thanks!
Barbara Noveau
01:00:03
The tool to format in Mobilize is Markdown
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:01:01
^^ Great call out, Barbara!
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
01:01:07
Exactly @Barbara! It’s kind of funky, but here’s more info on formatting in Mobilize: https://help.mobilize.us/en/articles/4196288-how-to-use-markdown-in-mobilize
Elli Klein
01:01:41
How do you get first contact when you don't have people's email addresses?
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:02:16
@Elli - I think this point from Hope is helpful - try posting events multiple places and engaging local partners.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:03:13
And on Mobilize itself!
Bruce Knoth
01:05:20
If we all expose our events all over the country I fear we'll overwhelm people. Too many options leads to indecision and inaction.
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:05:24
I think using a place name and/or group name in your event title is essential!
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:08:13
There are cities with no Swing Left groups - could be a way to avoid your concern, @Bruce.
Charlie Callis | he/him | Swing Left
01:09:01
Agreed and @Bruce, I think tools like Mobilize feeds, and formerly Take Action, help to eliminate that overwhelming feeling of making a choice, even when events are shown all over the country
Jim McBride
01:09:53
can molly post in the slack about her tactics and we can continue the conversation there
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:10:27
That’s a great idea, @Jim! If you aren’t on Slack yet, you can join here: http://swingleft.org/impact-slack
Jim McBride
01:11:20
it would be good to have Hope do the same
Pauline Lewis
01:11:41
Thank you Hope and Molly! Really great tips!
Yvonne Brandon
01:11:56
Fantastic ideas, thanks!
Steve Baker
01:12:21
Thank you Molly!
David slingluff
01:12:41
I have to jump on another meeting. Thanks SLers!
Bruce Knoth
01:13:22
If Mobilize uses Markdown, here's a guide: https://markdown-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/basics.html
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:13:42
There are a few groups who might want to post privately - like Crimson Goes Blue or the Posse!
Umesh Ketkar (he/him)
01:14:18
Thanks!
Hope Singsen (she/her) l Target Majority NYC
01:14:18
Thanks all!
