LEORA Jaeger-Siegel
24:42
In NM in the next few months, if Deb Haaland becomes Interior Secretary, we'll have an election for her congressional seat. What is the process for requesting national Swing Left support?

Patrick Dill
30:22
When will we learn how effective the Vote Forward letters writing was?
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
30:25
@Ted @Lynne we’re still exploring other political priorities, we know those are both really important too. Erica will touch on the strategic process more, but first and foremost it will be defending the Senate and the House
Umesh Ketkar
30:28
Will Swing Left get involved in state level races?
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
30:46
@Patrick - we’ll share an opportunity to learn more near the end of the call.

Will you be involved in supporting HR1?

Matt | Swing Left | he/him
31:34
@Susan and Debbie - we’ll discuss more shortly.
Keith Richmond
31:38
www.nationalpopularvote.com needs volunteers too, to pass the law in Virginia, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan etc in 2021
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
31:43
@Rebecca - yes
Mete Egemen
31:45
voter registration is key!
Bruce Knoth
31:51
I'd love to not use the term "Trumpism". Why put his name in print? Let's call it what it is . White Supremacy, sedition, etc.
Amy MacDonald
32:09
Keith. I am working on NPV here in Maine. Very important.
Ellen Wagner
32:16
Absolutely! Why dignify it as an “ism”??
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
32:16
@Bruce - that’s good feedback. Thanks.
Barb Miller
32:18
What about special elections?
LEORA Jaeger-Siegel
32:32
I agree re Bruce's comment on not giving "Trumpism" visibility.
Rebecca Shukla
32:37
there be an eye to helping build long-term infrastructure rather than election cycle to cycle? Work like what has gone on in AZ and GA but in say...TX?
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
32:45
@Barb - we may engage on special elections - depending on how competitive.
Steve Baker
32:47
Virginia 38th Senate District special election is March 23
Rebecca Shukla
32:51
That was meant to be wil there be an eye
Rebecca Spence
32:58
@Rebecca - agree
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
33:09
@Barb yes! Those are really important and our Political Team evaluates them on a case by case basis. If you know of one we should get involved in, email mcaffrey@swingleft.org
Alix Smullin
33:30
One thing Swing Left has been very disciplined is about is being very clear eyed about wat is winnable - I hope we will get good guidance and decisions about whether there are hard choices that have to be made eg, focus more on House or Senate
Colleen McCarthy
34:12
But the question is does it need to be winnable in one cycle?
Rebecca Shukla
34:30
^^^^^^^
Rene Rosechild
34:35
What Rebecca S said
Scott Cohen
34:52
Good question Colleen. But there's also the question of bandwidth to be added to that.
Jennifer Hunter
35:07
what is campaign in waiting?
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
35:23
Yes great points all We’ll have more guidance, programming, strategy, etc. as the cycle continues, but our immediate priorities will broadly be the House and the Senate
Yvonne Brandon
35:53
Agree with Alix. Swing Left goals, objectives, messaging and metrics are very clear.
Rene Rosechild
35:54
Ilost sound, anyone else?
Hope Singsen (she/her)

Me too!
Barbara Kyser
36:12
Doesn’t Sister District work with state races like the ones in Virginia?
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
36:52
@Barbara - yes, Sister District does state legislative races. We’ve worked with them some on that.
Fay Chazin-Seidelman
37:25
Unite Here did canvassing in Phoenix last Fall
Rebecca Spence
37:46
Is there thought to early fundraising or even 365-day fundraising to keep the flow in key geogrphies and ensure early money?
Barb Miller
37:51
Will SL partner with grassroots organization such as Fair fight etc.?
Mary Ellen Sullivan
38:10
Analysis or key points on why we lost seats in the House and didn't gain as much in the Senate would be great. That is the $1million question - but I'd love to hear SL's opinion
Meryl Neiman
38:27
We should work to main, and expand, our COVID early voting (by mail and in person) across the country.
Meryl Neiman
38:36
Oops. Maintain.
helen stewart
38:41
Second Mary Ellen Sullivan’s question
JEnnifer Hutz
38:47
When does Vote Forward expect to have their stats on the letters and the voter turn out?
Alissa Friedman (she/her)
38:49
+1 to the question about when we'll get the analysis from Vote Forward
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
38:50
@Rebecca - yes - Blueprint and other fundraising at Swing Left works to prioritize early fundraising to build infrastructure in key states.
Sally Davis
38:54
Have you considered partnering with Sisters United in Texas? They do coordinated outreach with very effective messaging to non-voting but registered women.
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
39:02
@Jennifer we’l touch on that later on in the call!
Kate Meyer
39:27
@Mary Ellen Sullivan: Republicans who wanted to get rid of Trump, but did not vote down ticket Dem.
Matt | Swing Left | he/him
39:37
@Barb - we have partnered some in terms of fundraising! We’re excited to explore supporting those orgs through volunteerism also
SharonCohen Cohen
39:42
When will Vote Forward have an update of the effectiveness of our 17.5 million letters and $9million dollars we spent on the letters?
nilofer couture
40:03
We also need help working in red rural districts!
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
40:19
@Sharon great question, Matt’s going to talk more about Vote Forward and learning more about their data and results towards the end of the call
SharonCohen Cohen
40:39
Yes, red rural districts are important. There are some of those even in California.
Umesh Ketkar
41:01
That’s the type of district Devin Nunes is in
Bruce Knoth
41:10
I know it's outside Swing Left's mission, but we need to do what we can or support other groups in taking action on Progressive priorities and making sure there is significant action on priorities that are important to people of color as well.
SharonCohen Cohen
41:35
Nunes is an example of a red rural district as is Kevin McCarthy.
LEORA Jaeger-Siegel
41:45
I'd like to learn about effective ways to work with campaigns.
Michelle and Julie
41:48
What is sustainability?
Fay Chazin-Seidelman
41:48
I wonder if there’s any chance to get vote out Kevin McCarthy or Devin Nunes?!
Kurt Anderson
41:59
To confirm...there will be a form we can send to our groups about advisory teams?
Bonnie Main
42:11
Will there be an advisory team for efficiently partnering and collaborating with other great organizations like Fair Fight?
Ellen Wagner
42:26
Colorado has MAJOR problems with red rural districts electing people like Boebert.
Fred Strasser
42:33
How successful was Blueprint? Will that continue?
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
42:35

43:08
CD21 in California Central Valley is also a red rural district. TJ Cox, a Dem, lost after one term in Congress.
Charlie | Swing Left | he/him
43:15
@Fred yes! Blueprint will be continuing and it was really well received. It drove millions of dollars to campaigns and allied grassroots organizations in Super States
Yvonne Brandon

It's another national grass root organization. First to the table with a written manifesto for the dem/left grassrooters.
Alissa Friedman (she/her)
46:59
Jennifer Fisher of Postcards for America coined the new term, "The Insistence"!
Meryl Neiman
47:02
Indivisible started as a guide written by former Obama era congressional staffers after the Trump election to help people fight back to resist Trump administration policy enactment by pressuring their elected representatives. It spread like wildfire and people formed Indivisible groups across the country..
Gail Grassi

Sally Davis
49:27
If legislation stalls in Congress and Democrats don’t deliver real results to voters, the 2022 races will be very tough. Are there any plans to pressure Democrats to kill the filibuster?
Amy Long - Indivisible Oregon
49:32
Goodbye Toomey!

Now it is no longer ROV, but the over arching organization: Center for Common Ground. ROV deals with elections only. Issues is CFCG.
Barb Miller

ROV is also doing a major effort in support of HR1 - For the People legislation.
Pauline Lewis

We love working with Reclaim Our Vote (ROV): https://actionnetwork.org/forms/reclaim-our-vote-signup

Will that session be open to our volunteers/members?
Jane Lesnick
57:46
yes - to new voters: thank you for being a voter! Invitation to get involved in local groups, build neighborhood organizing groups that will bolster the long term infrastructure that we need. Speaking from TX, where this infrastructure is still very much being built.
Alissa Friedman (she/her)

Why can't you do it anymore? Legal issue?
Yvonne Brandon
01:02:19
I've gotten feedback from friends in PA and GA who said the GOtV pressure was intense. Is Swing Left looking at a way to acknowledge and overcome voter burnout?
Pat Ferguson
01:02:31
since our high schools aren’t all meeting in person, voter registrTion isn’t be done there. will mean more need for voter registration in colleges
Amy MacDonald

Erica | Swing Left | she/hers
01:03:23
@Mete we’re optimistic about canvassing, but we just want to make sure it’s safe given where we are w/the pandemic. The concern is more around organizing massive state-to-state travel pushes as something we need to be safe around
Pat Ferguson
01:03:32
our people have gotten excited about doung something about the 140 gop who voted against accepting the electoral votes

Yvonne makes a huge point - how DO we acknowledge voter burnout in places that aren’t used to being in the focus, like GA and PA? They’re not used to being swing states
Meryl Neiman
01:03:33
Martha, was someone organizing the ballot curing to avoid duplication of effort?
Katina Vlastos
01:03:34
how soon in advance to begin mobilizing for ballot curing

I think voter registration will be super important going forward! Republicans registered more voters than Democrats in the last cycle…
Joe English
01:04:16
What began in WI, was fomented in NC, and then moved to GA in the fall, is going national in March. This was amazing group to be one of volunteers with doing all sorts of very specialized love voter protection projects. The Slack is still very active (Hari in Sturbridge MA is our co-leader). I will remain active within www.vopropros.com also moving forward. If someone wants to discuss what very specific accomplishments we made during the special election, I have several amazing examples. Any further insight on the conservative Korean-American vote aside from strong conservative Christian orientation?

Hopefully Biden’s agenda will convince more voters that the Democrats agenda is for The People, and hopefully we can iconvince folks to vote for Dems in the midterms.

The 18-29 voters who voted for the first time in the GA Senate Runoff was very significant. What was the type of outreach used to get them registered for the first time?

Hi Martha. We were their backbone and recruited 4200 cure canvassers, among other things. The 'VICE Squad' was the indispensable the GDP. And they were extremely grateful. Also recruited those 30 voters to protect the 4000 voters that were targeted in Muscogee & Forsyth Co's. Fair Vote tapped these 30 affidavits as evidence in the federal case. Just sharing.. Thanks!!!

Rose, Voter registration is a huge effort in Ga and has been for a number of years. But, NGP and Sunrise and other youth led groups made a concerted effort to reach out to young people.
