Matt | he/him | Swing Left
36:07
@Umesh - I don’t believe Swing Left has taken a position on the Manchin proposal. We don’t normally take positions on legislation, although we have taken steps to support HR.1.
Rebecca Spence
37:57
Really great to know SL is taking a short and long view. How are you coordinating with other Democratic groups on this?

YAY! So excited for the Weekend of Action
Pauline Lewis
50:54
Thank you, Ryan! Exciting info and clearly, lots of work was put into this strategy.
Anne Frahn
51:09
This strategy is obviously much more complicated than 2020, but do you think you could make a cool map like 2020 super state map that shows the kinds of races we’re working on in each state? (Like AZ = Governor, Senate, State Leg, etc) That 2020 visual was so helpful!
Umesh Ketkar
51:13
This is a great presentation- tons of info, and very inspirational. Can’t wait to share it with our group!!!
Rebecca Spence
52:07
How about letter writing events- that too?

“Really great to know SL is taking a short and long view. How are you coordinating with other Democratic groups on this?”We are working really closely with our instate and national partners, including the DNC, Senate, Congressional, and Gubernatorial committees, and all of the state parties to make sure that we are working hand in hand, not doing duplicative work, and providing you all with the best CTAs.
Colleen McCarthy (she/her)
53:09
Are the events to be posted in the regular phone bank Mobilize campaign?
Rebecca Spence
53:12
Ok thx
Leah Gillon
53:45
Is the plan that we're all in on in-person events? Or will guidance be given for virtual events?
Sunil Mehta
53:50
OK, thanks Umesh. I'm with They See Blue, and we have a chapter in LA as well. Maybe we can talk offline about collaboration between our groups. My email is smehta726@hotmail.com
Ryan Quinn
53:56
“Is SL going to help match making for groups that want to adopt a particular state / race?”We will definitely be working on matching volunteers with candidates and we will be working on reviving the “Swing District Finder” once we have new Congressional districts and maps finalized.
Indivisible Marin
54:18
Hello everyone! I wanted to let all CA chapters know about an organizational sign on letter to Senator Feinstein asking her to affirm her support for changes to the filibuster as needed to pass the For the People Act. CA Swing Left chapters are invited to sign on and to share the opportunity with their network. All advocacy, civic, faith, labor, etc. groups are invited to sign on. Further details and the form to sign up are at this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWJbyQIPXxM3cBY8YJ5uoZGyTimDaVcEB9xEkuqzd0RmgS5A/viewform

Judith Bolker
57:19
VA primary was June 8
Holly Middleton
57:57
Matt, how’s your kid doing?
Ryan Quinn
58:00
@Colleen, yes! The Blueprint strategy will mirror most of our targets but will prioritize the statewide incumbents (Kelly, Warnock, Evers) that are already running and can us that fundraising right away
David Berrios
58:09
@berl more info on our VA candidates can be found here: http://swingleft.org/va

Pride is a great summer plan! Always a good chance to recruit for your group!
Keith Richmond
01:01:00
I made a questionnaire using Google. I'm finding people who want to text, phone bank, or post card. But finding new members, and keeping existing members engaged is tough. Ideas welcome

For Keith: I'm planning a Google poll also. Can you share the level and quality of your response from members so far?
Berl Hartman
01:02:06
what are the winning issues in FL that uyou are using?
Hope Singsen
01:02:07
Feel free to use the Teach In slides For the People that I created here: http://bit.ly/ftp2021 it’s a great event to recruit folks worried about the state voter suppression laws, which is keeping a lot of folks up at night
Ryan Quinn
01:02:22
“Q: Can you address the other party candidates and how they will impact the race? (Virginia)”If you talking about 3rd party candidates, it is pretty unlikely that they will play any role in impacting the race. Youngkin represents much of the modern GOP in VA (fidelity to Trump, outsider perspective) and McAuliffe is a very well known VA Democrat, so it leaves relatively little space for 3rd parties to play a substantial role in what is typically a relatively low-turnout election, overall
Michelle Chang

Swing Blue Alliance/Swing Left Greater Boston is ffering S.1 postcards opportunities 300 min. https://www.mobilize.us/swingleftboston/c/s1/event/create/. We’re also running S. 1 phone banks almost every day and we’re working with Indivisible to organize a rally in Boston on June 26.
Tamara Kirson
01:02:41
Thank goodness, Laurie. We worry a lot about FL!
Keith Richmond
01:02:56
@Bob the response was lackluster. About 10%, sadly. But will send it out again
Walt Foody

01:04:33
How are you planning to deal with the new voting restrictions in GA?
Matt | he/him | Swing Left
01:04:37
@Bob - there might be a third option - finding more fun ways for folks to engage.
Erica | Swing Left | she/hers
01:04:42
@Walt I had never heard the term “Block Walk” (vs. canvass or door knocking) before I visited Texas, but I love it
Madeleine Deisen (she/her)
01:05:04
You can sign up for the College Democrats of Georgia's bi-weekly training series here: https://www.mobilize.us/swingleftcollege/event/387371/ I've learned so much from their trainings so far!
Bob Scheier
01:05:17
@Matt -- yes, we're thinking of a "fun" fundraiser -- any ideas you can point us to most welcome!
Hope Singsen
01:05:26
@Berl The For the People act will stop most of the state level voter suppression laws in their tracks — as well as the GOP’s partisan gerrymanders
Gail Grassi
01:05:27
We did a survey as well, not great response but useful to get a feel for how people want to participate. We will be hosting an in person get together for very involved volunteers first week in July to get more ideas
Ryan Quinn
01:05:37
“Is Swing Left supportive of the Manchin compromise offer on HR-1? I saw that Stacey Abrams is in favor.”Hard to comment on the specific negotiations about the status of voting reform, but what I would say is that the elimination of gerrymandering would be the single biggest advantage that Democrats could get out of any electoral reform as it relates to our efforts to hold the House this year. It is also important for national standards to be set, but we look forward to seeing where that proposal lands, even though it looks like the GOP will be unified in it’s opposition once again
Bob Scheier
01:05:56
@Gail -- good idea, in-person meeting to build on the core of motivated folks. Thakns.
Keith Richmond
01:06:24
@Bob I'm trying to keep the people still working engaged and know that some "checked out" ones plan to come back after summer. We have to plan a in-person meet up sometime.
Bob Scheier
01:07:13
@Yes, time to think of an in-person meet up to rebuild energy. Also good point about need to keep growing...
Holly Middleton
01:07:49
Yes, agreed, the energy is THERE among our people. Almost surprisingly so.
Hope Singsen
01:08:31
In terms of Manchin, the pressure grassroots groups and civil rights leaders and Dem leadership have brought is the only reason he is even negotiating now. We are keeping the pressure on by patching his voters straight through to his voicemail, to keep moving him in the direction we need, supporting the full act (or at least a lot more than he is yet supporting) and with his recent reversal we have every reason to believe we can keep moving him toward showing up this historic bill.
Laurie Woodward Garcia

01:11:48
I was going to small rallies before the 2018 and 2020 elections with a clipboard to sign people for our SL chapter. It was amazing how many people had not heard of SL, and those were people who were motivated to go to rallies. Many added their names to our list. It is a great way to educate motivated people.
